Delete your unsend account
You can delete your unsend account and its associated data at any time. You request deletion in the app, confirming with your passkey (or your recovery PIN), and it happens 14 days later. Until then you can change your mind.
If you still have the app
- Open unsend and go to Settings → Security → Security checkup → Your data → Delete account, or tap Delete account at the bottom of Settings.
- Confirm with your passkey. Accounts created with a phone number confirm with their recovery PIN.
- Your account is scheduled for deletion 14 days later, and every other device is signed out straight away.
The same option is in Settings on the web at web.unsend.app/settings.
Changing your mind
Within those 14 days, signing in again or tapping Cancel deletion (in the same place) cancels the deletion and keeps your account as it was.
If you no longer have the app
Email support@unsend.app from the email address on your account, or include the phone number you signed up with. We verify ownership before deleting, and complete the request within 30 days.
What gets deleted
After the 14 days, these are permanently deleted:
- Your account.
- Your messages, emails and media.
- Your name, username, phone number, passkeys, recovery PIN and profile photo.
- Your contacts.
- Your devices and push registrations — every signed-in device is signed out.
What is kept, and why
The copies of your messages that other people received stay in their conversations, shown as coming from a deleted user. They are their copy of a conversation you both took part in, and removing them would delete other people's data. Deleted data can remain in encrypted backups for up to 12 months, until those backups expire; we don't restore deleted accounts from them. App usage records are kept for up to 400 days. Invitation records, deleted usernames and the content-access log are kept for security and fraud prevention, as the privacy policy describes.
After deletion you can create a new account, but your previous account and its data cannot be restored. Read our privacy policy.
